Advice For Driving in Heavy Rain by J3 Tawau Car Rental

Car Rental in Tawau

Many people like to dance in the rain. But what about driving in the rain? A heavy rain that is. Fun? For some people, driving in the rain is a major concern. On average there are more than 45,000 accidents every year as a result of wet and slippery road conditions, causing about 4,700 deaths and injuries.

But for your info, driving in heavy rain does not have to be a horrible experience. Here at J3 Tawau Car Rental we would like to share some tips from Brent Praeter, a coach and expert driving instructor to help you drive your car in heavy rain:

Tips number 1, THINK & FOCUS. It looks simple right? "Many people drive subconsciously, out of habit," said Praeter. "And when it rains, they often do not change their minds." When conditions are less than ideal, especially during heavy rains, the driver should stay alert, focused and concentrate on what is happening around them. Do not neglect and daydreaming. Focus and think about the situation around.

Tips number 2, TURN ON THE HEADLIGHTS. Turn on the car headlights when visibility is poor is an act that can save lives when driving in heavy rain. This will ensure a moving car in front and behind you aware of the position of the car that you drive. It can avoid a collision when driving in heavy rain. Praeter also said that the car wipers and tires must be in good condition to make sure you stay safe while driving in the rain.

Tips number 3, BEWARE OF HYDROPLANING. That's the technical term for what happens when your wheels slide over the surface layer of water over the road itself. When hydroplaning occurs, your car will start slipping uncontrollably. With only 1/12 inch layer of water on the road and the speed is more than 35 miles per hour, you can experience hydroplaning. So make sure you are driving your car slowly while in the rain. If you start to hydroplane, do not panic and please release the gas pedal slowly and continue driving without pressing the gas pedal until you regain control of your car.

Okay, sounds easy right? Hopefully sharing these tips will help you when driving in the rain.
